The Porsche 718 Cayman is the German brand's entry-level sports car model, a two-seater that began life simply known as the Cayman.

For 2020, Porsche brings six-cylinder power back to the Cayman in the GT4 model.

Available Trims

Porsche sells the Cayman in base, S, GTS, and GT4 trims. Base cars use a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and Cayman S and GTS share a 2.5L motor that's tuned for more power in the GTS. GT4 uses a 4.0L six-cylinder. Four-cylinder cars can be had with a choice of six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions. The GT4 comes exclusively with the six-speed stick.

Standard Features

Base Cayman models come with two-way seats with electric backrest adjustment, hill start assist, engine auto stop/start, 18-inch wheels with staggered tires, tire pressure monitoring, an eight-speaker stereo, smartphone interface, power-adjustable/heated side mirrors, power windows, automatic bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, LED interior lighting, a 4.6-inch gauge cluster display, front and rear parking sensors, air conditioning, partial leather upholstery, and an integrated garage door opener.

Cayman S adds 19-inch wheels.

GTS models get a limited slip differential, 20-inch wheels, active suspension management and a lower ride height, and sport seats.

GT4 brings automatic rev-matched downshifts, a short-throw shift lever, dynamic gearbox mounts, adjustable chassis settings, tire pressure monitoring with a track mode, trim-specific body kit, upgraded sport seats with two-way power adjustments, and Alcantara/leather upholstery.

Key Options

Items that are commonly standard in less-expensive cars are options here, like heated seats and automatic climate control.

Performance options include a sport chrono package, and ceramic composite brakes.

Fuel Economy

Porsche's fuel consumption estimates for the Cayman are 11.0/8.3 L/100 km (city/highway) for the 2.0L with manual transmission, and 10.5/8.0 with the automatic. Cayman S's ratings are 12.1/9.0 with the stickshift and 11.1/8.4 for automatic versions, while GTS ratings are 12.1/9.4 L/100 km (stick) and 11.8/9.2 with the automatic. As of this writing, Porsche had not published estimates for the GT4 and its six-cylinder engine.

Porsche 718 Cayman competition comes from the Jaguar F-Type, the Toyota Supra, BMW's 2 Series, the Alfa Romeo 4C.
